Roger Bisby continues the installation of an en suite shower room using a silicone free shower tray and surround from Adamsez.

The story so far!
The shower walls were prepared with Dunlop’s shower waterproofing system and tiled with Dunlop Tile Adhesive. The upstand tray was chased into the wall to avoid kicking the tiles out.

The 600 x 300 wall tiles were fixed over the Dunlop shower waterproofing base coat and tiled with Dunlop Anti Mould Grout. This contains Microban and you must wear gloves and eye protection when using it.

I have never used a wash-down kit, but I thought I would give this one from Benson Hand Tools tiling range a try, and I will never go back to the bucket and sponge. The kit contains a sponge cleaning grid to allow you to keep the sponge free of the solids and a pair of rollers for squeezing the water out of the sponge float. The segmented float is provided in the kit.

The Croydex bar mixer mounting kit is spring loaded so you can adjust the projection to suit the tile thickness.

The Adamsez Penta shower surround continues the silicone free project with rubber backed wall profiles. These compress to take up grout lines and slight unevenness in any tiles. The glazing gaskets are slipped in after fixing.

The adjustment in the wall profiles allows you to get the frame perfectly plumb but the unusual thickness (15mm), and the fact that I chased the wall to accommodate the upstand on the tray, meant that the profile was at the limit of its adjustment. You have around 20mm adjustment to play with.

Always a nervous moment bringing in a large curved door. This one is hinged, so I had to locate the bottom hinge on the lug and then secure the top while I screwed the fixing in place. I really should have had some help but who would take the picture? 

The Adamsez Penta screen sits in holes in the tray, which are sealed with a rubber gasket. The Croydex Bar Mixer has been adapted with a Croydex diverter valve to allow an extra large overhead showerhead to be used as well as a sliding rail flexible hose head. The diverter allows either or both. The shower head is the biggest I have come across and it has an easy clean surface.
