Lucky Mascot
Roger Bisby takes another look at extensive Mascot workwear range.

I reviewed several items from the Mascot Workwear range last summer including trousers and the Batura boots but I said then I would revisit the range to look at the winter jackets.

The Tondela fake fur trim on the hood gave me a chance to play Eskimo but when you grow tired of the tickle and the laughs you can quickly remove the trim and even the hood for that matter.

The jacket itself is made of breathable windproof and waterproof material, with taped seams. It has a medium weight quilt lining with a zip front and press stud overlap to protect you from the driving rain. I got the chance to wear the jacket through the unusually heavy rain of December to test its waterproof qualities, then to the Alps in January to test it against the cold. You wait until the editor sees my travel expenses.

There are far too many pockets to list here, which gives me the usual problem of remembering which one I put my phone in. There is a zip section at the back which I initially thought was a pocket but discovered is in fact a way of placing the back iron to print the back of the jacket, so if you want your company logo on the back the Tondela is the jacket. The sleeves have leather look reinforced wear patches which are really better suited to someone who spends a lot of time resting his forearms on a table. That won’t be me then.

The Raposa is a strikingly similar jacket to the Tondela but is made from a different fabric and is not suitable for printing. Presumably it will melt or cease to be waterproof if a hot transfer is placed on it.
